The new Kodak Z950 Digital Camera

Another greatly anticipated product announced today is the Kodak Z950 Digital Camera. It has 10X zoom but is small enough that you can easily carry it with you. Kodak's Jerry Magee reviews the Z950 feature set...

I was really excited to try out the Z950. Here are some gratuitous shots of my favorite furry subjects. I was glad for the fast click-to-capture speed because these two don't sit still for long.

The Smart Capture feature analyzes the scene and adjusts the settings for a great shot in practically any situation. The photo taken above was in really bright light and the one below in shadows but they both came out beautifully.

If you are looking for something really small, there is also the new Kodak M381 Digital Camera.

The M381 has a really slick design with advanced features like 12MP, face detection and blur reduction technology.

Comment: Hi Barb - I would have to test that - take a look at the Kodak Z980 - that has a viewfinder.

Comment: I see that there is no viewfinder. Is the display bright enough so that I can see it in a sunny Arizona day?

Comment: Zi8's new name is Kodak Kooler. It's hot and way kool. Are there companion products to compliment the Kodak Kooler? I've got ideas. Remember, if your Zi8 isn't kool enough, then it's just a cellphone without the phone.

Comment: Does the Z950 lens retract flush with the camera body?

Response: Yes, it does

Comment: Are there any sample images available? The dog and the cat are the only ones I've seen (and they look nice). I was wondering what the HD video looked like, and if optical zoom could be used during video recording.

Response: If you search on "Kodak Z950" on Flickr, you'll find a few more shots from Friday night's ball game. http://bit.ly/CRoH7

Comment: With its compact size and long zoom, the Z950 should be marketed as a shirtpocket or "walking around" camera for serious photographers, many of whom carry high end small cameras when they can't or don't want to lug around a camera bag full of SLR equipment. I want one just for that purpose. The Panasonic TZ series is well-respected as a professional's backup camera. Our Z950 fills that niche very nicely.
