Comment: I use this camera to tape lectures. I set the camera up and then walk away. It is quite distressing to find that many times the camera has automatically shut down after 2-3 minutes. I usually film these lectures in HD mode, and like Enzo, I have found that the battery meter is unreliable. Even with fresh batteries I am unsure of how much power I have left after filming for 70 or 90 minutes. This is a great little camera, but these issues are extremely troubling. Are these issues fixed in the Zi8?

Comment: I have a Zi6 with the 1.11 firmware and two issues are preventing this camera from being a GREAT camera in my opinion : 1) Battery monitor (especially in HD60 mode) is NOT right. It claims my batteries are flat in minutes. You turn off the camera and turn it back on, they appear fully charged again, work for a few minutes in HD60 mode. Other modes seem to have a more realistic battery life meter. I have tested the batteries on a meter and used different sets at higher mAH ratings. Can the Firmware be checked on the battery meter in HD60 mode? You can be filming like for 3 minutes and the camera shuts DOWN! Really irritating. Secondly, please add a toggle on the slow shutter speed in low light mode. EVERYONE has commented on this in reviews. I can see in the firmware code that a setting exists and the TEST mode of the camera shoots at FULL shutter speed in low light, so THIS is POSSIBLE on a ZI6. Fix these two things and people will RUSH out and buy this camera!!!

Response: Thanks for the feedback, I'll pass it to the product team.

Comment: I will be receiving my Kodak Zi6 Pocket Video Camera in the mail soon. I have been researching the SDHC cards that I know I must get in order to be able to record on the camcorder. Can someone that has this camcorder please recommend one to me based on your success? I'm looking at getting a Class 6, 8 or 16 GB memory card. I'm also open to suggestions from others who have had successes with a certain brand, etc...Also, how much recording time can I expect to get with the various GBs? (Supposing I record at 720 and not HD.) Thank you!

Comment: I just purchase Zi6 and I would like to know do you know if I can record from a dvd to the video camera

Response: The Zi6 does not have that feature.

Comment: Could we please know if another firmware update is going to be released. Image stabilization is a must! Please dont say "no!, go buy the zi8"

Response: I know a lot of people were asking for image stablilization - which is why we have added it to the Zi8. Unfortunately I don't think it can be added to the Zi6 with just a firmware upgrade - there are more factors to it than firmware.

Comment: Installation Instructions IMPORTANT: Print this page before continuing. Determine Your Current Firmware Version Turn on the camera. Press the Delete/Stop and the Capture/Review buttons at the same time. Check the version number of the firmware in the top right corner of the LCD. If the version number is earlier than 1.11, upgrade the firmware on your camera. Prepare your Camera CAUTION: Loss of power during the firmware upgrade can render your camera inoperable. Install new or fully charged batteries in the camera. If you have video on the internal memory of your camera or on a memory card, save the video to your computer. Download and Extract the Firmware File Download the file to your computer. The file/disk image automatically mounts and displays the firmware file. Note the location of the file. The file has a .bin file extension. Upgrading the Camera Firmware Load an SD card into a card reader attached to your computer. NOTE: If you don't have a card reader, go to www.kodak.com/go/digcamask and request an SD card with the firmware upgrade. Copy the firmware file from your computer to the root directory of your SD card. Remove the SD card from the card reader, then load it into your camera. Press and hold the Delete/Stop and the Capture/Review buttons for 2 seconds while turning on the camera. Use the joystick to select FW Version on the LCD, then press the OK button. When the submenu appears, press the OK button to begin the installation. When the installation is complete, turn off the camera. Check the camera's current firmware to verify that the FW installation was successful.

Comment: Where can I find step by step directions on how to upgrade the firware? I run mac OX 10.5

Comment: Future firmware update feature wish list: - some sort of digital image stabilization - display time/space remaining on memory card at current recording format settings - more options for video recording format (.avi, .mov, etc.) - quicker power on or some sort of visual acknowledgment when power on is pressed. When the power button is pressed to turn the unit on, the 1-2 second delay makes it far too easy to impatiently/instinctively press the button again which just turns the unit off before it can finish powering on. - allow further zoom out(is this limited by the optics of the lens?) a wider angle would be nice - improved low light performance thanks

Comment: Thx Shawmaan.

Comment: @James, press both the buttons at the same time. The firmware version will be on the top right corner of the screen.

Comment: How can I find out what Firmware I currently have installed on my Zi6? Also the Link to the firmware is expired. Plus Image stabilization would be a great addition.

Posted By: Shawmaan (6/29/2009)

Comment: Also, I record in HD60 90% of the time. Add a setting to allow the user to set their default recording type.

Comment: Hi just a few changes would be great..if you hook your Zi6 up to a DVD recorder to record to DVD, it's the composite"AV" cable you use. Only thing is the time is always at the top of the screen and does not time out to give you just video. If this could be set to time out, copying videos to DVD would be excellent with the time infor at the top of your screen!

Comment: Image stabilization would be a great addition. You really need a steady hand. Any chance that could be added with a firmware update?

Comment: Jennifer. Here is an example of a video with frames dropping.

Posted By: mindspider (5/13/2009)

Comment: Hi, It's great that there is a delete all but there should also be a lock photo / Video.

Posted By: mindspider (5/11/2009)

Comment: Hi, Thanks for the firmware update will image stabilizing be coming soon? that will make this the best thing in its class

Posted By: Jennifer Cisney (4/15/2009)

Comment: Bruce - have you seen a video with frame-dropping? We haven't seen an example of this yet, and it would be helpful if we could see one... if you know of one, send me the link.

Comment: Nickcast - It should work on a card up to 32GB so I am sure you are frustrated. Have you tried the Zi6 support yet? http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/products/ekn035874.jhtml?pq-path=13243 You can chat online.

Comment: I bought a 32gb Topram Card and I just get a red exclamation mark even after formatting. It works fine on my computer and the reader it came with. I have yet figured out how to fix this.

Comment: Greetings Dave, Saw your post and thought I would let you know that Kodak is always working on improvements to existing product as well as new. When an innovation is found it is posted to a particular products options and a notice is sent out to the general public later. So, we do let you know that there is a firmware dowload that you can make to bring a variety of changes or options. Check out your camera site every now and then to know what is available. Best of Luck and regards, Ron Baird - the friendly Kodak guy

Comment: I know it's something you should just do with new digital gadgets these days, but it would have been nice if Kodak had mentioned the Firmware update in the manual. I've been searching for a solution all day until I found your blog....

Posted By: Bruce (3/1/2009)

Comment: Say -- do you know when the next firmware upgrade coming out? I would love still more improved low light performance, but more importantly, the larger issues are need to fix the frame-dropping and add image stabilizing. Some people are still buying the Flip Mino HD over the zi6 for these reasons!

Posted By: Jennifer Cisney (2/4/2009)

Comment: We have tested cards up to 32GB with no known issues. I suggest you format the card on the PC first and then format it in the camera. Hope that helps!

Comment: I have a 16gb class 6 (Transcend) in my Zi6. I have never had a problem reviewing clips. Of course, mine was delivered with firmware 1.1 already installed so I don't know if this was a problem with 1.0

Posted By: Mark (2/2/2009)

Comment: One of the comments I read online stated you couldn't review clips if you has a card larger than 8gb. If correct does this formware address this issue? Thanks Mark
